Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am on a regular birth control pill, tablet Diane 35 for PCOS. I took an emergency contraceptive less than 24 hours after having intercourse. It was protected, but we were scared that some ejaculation might have happened. I took this pill four days before my expected period, and now it has been a week; I have not got any signs of spotting or my period yet. I am experiencing extra white discharge. I am taking my pills regularly.

What is the possibility of being pregnant?

Answered by Dr. Reetika

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the details shared by you. I fully understand your concern and will surely help you. You have already taken regular birth control pills, and then you had protected intercourse. Further, to be extra safe, you took an emergency contraceptive pill. So let me assure you that you would not get pregnant. Additionally, the emergency contraceptive pill is hormone-based, and it, along with your regular pill, has resulted in excess hormones in your body. So because of all this, you are getting a white discharge.

Furthermore, since you are under tremendous anxiety, that has led you to take the emergency contraceptive pill despite having followed two types of protection already. Hence, all this, coupled with extra hormones in your body, has delayed your periods. As it is in normal circumstances, also emergency contraceptive pills have this known side effect of delaying periods in particular females, so do not worry, you would not get pregnant. Wait for around two weeks, and you should be getting periods within this time.
