Hi doctor,

My girlfriend and I had unprotected sex. I did not ejaculate (but precum was there, I guess). Her last period started on the fifteenth of last month and ended on the twenty-second of last month. We had intercourse on the first of this month. Will she get pregnant!? Kindly give your opinion.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

For getting pregnant, the sperms have to be ejaculated inside the reproductive organ of the female. These sperms then need to fertilize an egg which may or may not be available depending upon the ovulation pattern of the female. When the egg is fertilized, then it needs to be implanted in the uterus of the female. When all this happens successfully, then a female is said to have conceived. In your case, although there was no complete ejaculation, even precum contains some amount of sperm which can cause pregnancy. Also, it was early for ovulation on the first of this month, but again sperms can survive for up to five days once inside the female reproductive organ. So there is definitely a possibility, although very less. I suggest taking an emergency contraceptive pill like Unwanted 72 (Levonorgestrel) which you guys will be tensed all these days. Also, just in case the girl conceives, it will not be easy then. Do not worry. The chance of pregnancy is very low. But please be on the safer side.

I hope this was helpful.

Hi doctor,

Thank you.

What can be the side effects of Unwanted 72? How to deal with them? Kindly give your opinion.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

There are no major side effects that can affect daily routine. However, these are hormone-based pills that can lead to headache, nausea, fatigue, etc. they can also interfere in the menstrual cycle of certain females. It can lead to some spotting in certain females after around a week of taking the pill. In addition, it can cause a delay of up to two weeks in periods of certain females. There are no major side effects. ECP (emergency contraceptive pill) works at three different stages. Firstly it thickens vaginal fluids to prevent fertilization of the egg. Then it delays the release of the egg from the ovary. Lastly, if the egg had been fertilized before the dose of the pill, then it prevents implantation of the fertilized egg in the uterus. So do not worry. You can take ECP without much worry.

I hope this was helpful.
