Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am suffering from premature ejaculation (early ejection), which I guess is due to masturbation. I am unmarried, 29 years old, height 5'10'' and weight 64 kg.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Premature ejaculation has multiple causes and at times it is difficult to pinpoint the exact cause. It can be managed by two approaches - first, behavioral therapy and second, drug therapy.

Behavioral therapy includes squeeze technique, start-stop technique, and coitus interruption technique. You can read about these online and practice any one of them. It takes time to effectively practice them. So, keep practicing.

Second, a drug from SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) group is used for premature ejaculation as the side effects of this class of drugs are delayed ejaculation, which is used here. Usually recommended drugs are Fluoxetine 20 daily or Paroxetine 12.5 mg daily or Dapoxetine 30 mg one hour prior to sexual activity. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and take medications with their consent.

Behavioral therapy has benefits of long-term effects.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

In the next month, I am about to marry. Can I proceed with marriage? Is this a normal thing or should I start taking medicines?

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

It is quite a common problem. For only this problem, you need not worry about marriage. Drugs are to be started only if you have repeatedly faced this problem. That too after in-person consultation with a doctor.

Another thing is that anxiety is a common culprit for this problem. So, a good knowledge about normal sex is very important as sometimes non realistic things can creep in mind and disturb us. So, a realistic approach has to be made. You can discuss it with a doctor or your friend which you think can help.

Premature ejaculation is not caused by masturbation as you guessed it.
