Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My father who is 79 years of age has got prostate tumor. We have done all the medical tests and pet scan. The oncologist has confirmed us tumor. Now due to lockdown we are unable to reach doctor also we want second opinion too. The doctor has told us that the solution is surgery. But if there is another solution or remedy we would go for it. As my father is 79 years of age and also his health has deteriorated day by day. We do not want to go for surgery. Please let us know some solution. Due to lockdown we are unable to take him to the hospitals as hospitals are also in red zone. Kindly suggest.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your father has apparently a stage I penile cancer. The ideal management is surgery which may only involve a wide local excision. This can be done by a general surgeon or even a dermatologist who can perform skin surgery. Should you however cannot have the surgery done, the other option you may consider is radiotherapy of the penis. Radiotherapy is not the optimal treatment but given your current situation, this is the option that maybe more feasible. The third option is laser therapy directed to the penile mass.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thanks for your response. One more question ,due to lockdown of COVID-19 we are unable to visit hospital. Is there any precaution or medication we can take at home? Also how much time we can delay as lockdown has extended. Please suggest some diet or some medicine so that the infection cannot spread.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If the cancer on his penis has an infection now like there are yellowish discharges or bad smell, he may take antibiotics like Sultamicillin 750 mg two times a day for 10 days. However, a doctor must prescribe this medicine. You can also try cleaning the wound by just washing with a specially prepared antiseptic as follows: 1 liter of purified water or cooled down preboiled water, 1 teaspoon of vinegar, 1 teaspoon of zonrox or chlorox. Simply pour the water over the open wound without rubbing it then cover with a gauze. While waiting for the surgery, eat healthy, make sure he does not lose weight. No other special food or medicine

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
