Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I recently received a root canal treatment two days ago. I am still experiencing pain, but now there is a swelling in my jaw that came on the third day of the root canal treatment. Is this a sign of infection?
Hi doctor,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Yes, swelling and pain after root canal treatment are signs of infection due to over-instrumentation.
It can also be due to the presence of accessory canals, which the doctor has not found, and it can be due to perforation as well.
Another reason is incomplete BMP (bio-mechanical preparation). But to tell you precisely about a particular cause is easier with a radiograph of the tooth.
Still, for swelling and infection, I can suggest medications:
1. Tablet Amoxycillin 625 mg three times a day for five days.
2. Tablet Acelofenac 100 mg, Paracetamol 325 mg, and Serratidopeptidae 15 mg twice daily for three days.
3. Tablet Pantoprazole 49 mg once a day for one week.
I hope you will get better in a few days but do tell your dentist about this what I said.
I can help you further if you need my assistance. Thanks.
