Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I took a test and had the following results:

  1. Rubella IgG Ab 68.7 units per milliliter of blood (IU/mL).
  2. Rubella IgM Ab 0.15 Index.
  3. Cytomegalovirus IgG Ab 40 arbitrary units per milliliter (AU/mL).
  4. Cytomegalovirus IgM Ab 0.04 Index

I do not have any symptoms. The test was recommended after my wife had a series of miscarriages. Kindly suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. When the rubella virus infects, the body defends by producing two varieties of antibodies,

  1. IgM, which appears 3 to 7 days after the onset of symptoms and is present for a few weeks.
  2. IgG, which appears a few days after IgM and lasts for the rest of that human's life. High IgG might be due to a prior infection by the virus or vaccination.

A rubella IgG greater than ten units per milliliter of blood (10 IU/mL) gives adequate protection. IgG provides long-term immunity. A positive rubella IgG test result is good, and it means that you are immune to rubella and or that you might have been previously infected with rubella. I hope this helps.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the response.

What about the Cytomegalovirus test? Does it mean I do not need to take any medication?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No treatment is currently indicated for cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection in healthy people. However, antiviral therapy is used for people with compromised immune systems who have either sight-related or life-threatening illnesses due to CMV infection.

Do you have any issues lately? Kindly revert.

Thank you.
