Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have sudden sensitivity to cold (like drinking water). I had a filling done in my tooth years ago. Is this a sign of another cavity, a worn-out filling, or something else? It hurts in the center of the tooth, runs down to the roots, and goes away quickly. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read through your complaint and the relevant details.

These are all definite signs and symptoms of tooth decay. The description of pain confirms that tooth decay has gone extensive involving the vital part of the tooth called the dental pulp. There is no substitute for virtual examination. Hence, I would not be able to tell you if the tooth involved is the filled one or a new one without seeing it. The pressure you feel when biting down is again a major clue you have given me. This means that a particular tooth that pains have gone beyond the stage of doing just a filling. Mostly, you need to undergo a root canal treatment for that tooth. Hence, I advise you to visit a nearby dentist and take an X-ray of the painful tooth followed by appropriate treatment.

Thank you.
