How to confirm if a child's skin rash is chickenpox?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 6-year-old child is having itchy skin rashes. How to know if it is chickenpox? Please advise.

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

It is one of the common viral infections. There is nothing to worry about. Chickenpox usually starts on the chest, back, trunk, face, and mouth and then spreads to the legs, including the groin, private areas, and arm. It starts from the center and radiates to the periphery. It might last for a week. These can be accompanied by fever, vomiting, and loose stools like other viral illnesses. I suggest you take the tablet Paracetamol for fever and Calamine lotion for itching.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you need any help.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thanks for the reply.

The rashes are present all over the body.

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, it can be all over the body, as flat rashes, blisters, or scabs. It is advisable to consult a pediatrician in person.

Thanks.
