Can STD symptoms appear immediately after protected sex?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have tiredness and headache due to tension after sex with a new partner with protection. These symptoms started immediately after the intercourse. Can the symptoms of STD (Sexually Transmitted Disease) or STI (Sexually Transmitted Infection) start immediately after intercourse? Can I get married?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Protected sex has the least or zero risk of exposure. The symptoms after protected sex are impossible, as it is not a miracle or magic. It is because of anxiety and not due to STD (sexually transmitted disease) or STI (sexually transmitted infection,) as you had protected sex. If you are worried, go for a test. I suggest fourth-generation HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) one and two and STD panel tests. If all are non-reactive, it means you are safe. Then you can plan for marriage.

Regards.
