Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 18-year-old female. My upper teeth looks nice, but I have an underbite and crooked lower teeth. My jaw gets numb from time to time because I do not close my jaw completely, as my gums behind the third molar hits the upper molar teeth. The gums have molded to the size of my upper molar because when I chew or close my teeth, half of my upper molar teeth hits my bottom gums behind the third molar.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The lingual placement of mandibular teeth have caused the gums irritation and numbness. At your age, you can do orthodontic treatment. Kindly take an orthopantamogram and verify the condition of teeth. And then go for orthodontic appliances. Orthodontic treatment takes about one to two years. Once the treatment is started, you can observe the changes in the gums and ease for chewing. I advice you to check for impacted teeth also. This will also reduces gum discomforts. The permanent solution is removing the impacted teeth and doing orthodontic treatment.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
