Is throat pain normal after taking two Paracetamol 500 mg?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had two Paracetamol 500 mg and I started feeling a sharp pain in the throat. Is that normal?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

The sharp pain in the throat is suggestive of acute pharyngitis case. To get relief from inflammation and pain, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug like Paracetamol can be prescribed. You can take Paracetamol that is available to you. Now for congestion relief, decongestant also needs to be prescribed. Salt water gargle can be done with warm water three times a day. Avoid excess spicy foods. Drink more water. If no improvement, then complete blood count needs to be done for further work up.
