Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been struggling with throat pain on my left side of the mouth accompanied by jaw and ear pain on the same side. I had been to the doctor three times and been on antibiotics twice. Still, it does not go away. I was referred to a local ENT. I can feel lymph nodes swollen on the same side as well and now a swollen lump under the jaw on the same side. I am very scared and I need some advice.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

When you had swollen lymph nodes in your body, what was the diagnosis? Did those heal completely? Is the current issue the palpable node? Is it present only on the left side or both sides? Are the swollen nodes also painful? My initial suspects are temporomandibular joint disorder or arthritis, stupid process enlargement on the left side, tonsillitis, and ear problems. Are there any problems with chewing or swallowing or hearing? Any ear discharge or ear fullness or ringing noise in the ear or giddiness? Can you upload the jaw X-ray? Have you done any scanning for the sinuses? Any sinus problems like nose block or a headache or a runny nose or thick nasal discharge? Do you take medicines for diabetes or blood pressure or thyroid?

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I do not have a copy of my jaw X-ray. I had my tonsils removed when I was 18 years old with recurring tonsilitis and I also had Mono when I was 15 years old. There is a lymph node swollen between earlobe and jaw and it is movable but last week a new one popped up underneath my jaw that I cannot move as well as the other.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The presence of nodes suggests some sort of inflammation or infection. When will you get an ENT to examine you? It is required. We need to rule out any focus of infection. Are there any dental problems? Pain, sensitivity or cold intolerance? A course of antibiotics slightly strong a, as well as anti-inflammatory medicines, will be required. I suggest third generation Cephalosporin like Cefixime 200 mg one tablet taken twice daily for seven days. Anti-inflammatory medicines would be Chymotrypsin Trypsin combination taken twice daily before meals. Tylenol or Ibuprofen appropriate for your weight will remove the pain and soreness associated.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
