Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I was sick four days ago and had lots of throat mucus and a very bad sore throat, due to climate change. It was super cold, and I went out with just a T-shirt, and the next day I started feeling sick. Maybe a strep throat or tonsillitis? My tonsils were a bit inflamed, and also I had a fever that lasted for two days.

I woke up and started coughing really hard, and my throat was hurting me like someone was sticking a knife into my throat and coughed up little blood with saliva (less than a teaspoon). It eventually cleared up after spitting three more times and cleared up after that. This had never happened before. Should I worry? What might that be? I am scared of cancer and really have bad anxiety.

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Maybe you have septic tonsillitis.

Blood may be from a sore throat or a forceful cough.

You need antibiotics but before treatment, it is better to go for a throat swab culture and sensitivity, and then start medications.

Consult a specialist doctor, talk to him or her, and start the medicines with their consent.

  • Tablet Ranitidine 150 mg, one tablet two times before food.
  • Tablet Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid 625 mg two times daily.
  • Tablet Fexofenadine two times daily.
  • Tablet Chymural Forte one tablet twice daily.
  • Tablet Ibuprofen one tablet twice daily after food.

Gargle with salt water twice daily for five days.

Kindly review with laboratory reports after five days.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

It seems after day four. I am feeling super fine! Just took hedera helix extract, and now I am feeling much better.

Do you think coughing up little blood is a concern? Does it sound like lung cancer? I was clearing my throat all the time, lost a bit of my voice, and it was a bit hard for me to eat. Is it common to cough up little blood when you have such a bad cold and painful throat?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

For cancer, there is a very remote possibility.

I suggest you go for a throat swab test and culture and sensitivity to rule out most of the causes.

Still, if you are worried better go for an X-ray chest or a computed tomography chest.

You need not worry. As I told you before, blood must be from the throat only.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
