Will past maternal toxoplasmosis affect my healthy child?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My daughter is 7 years old. Now, she is normal. Her mother had toxoplasmosis when the baby was born. After birth, doctors examined the baby's blood and she did not get the germs of toxoplasmosis. Will it cause any problems in the future?

Please advise.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Usually, toxoplasmosis (a disease caused by the parasite Toxoplasma gondii that can affect people and animals worldwide) does not affect human beings. It is known to cause problems in animals only. However, if the baby is a female child, then she may have to get tested when she is planning for pregnancy, as it may have some effects during the fertile period. If she is easily getting pregnant, then there is nothing to worry about.

I hope that you get your answer.

Please let me know if you want some help.

Thank you.
