Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I want to enquire about the Tretinoin cream, which I have been using for the last three days. I had acne on my face, so I applied a cream that contained Hydroquinone, Tretinoin, and Mometasone. It converts my skin into dry skin, and acne becomes worse, brown, and starts peeling off my skin.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the information provided on your end, and I do understand your concern.

The triple regimen cream consisting of Tretinoin, Mometasone, and Hydroquinone is a medicated cream that is used for specific skin conditions like melasma and lentigines and is not advised to be used for acne. For acne, there are antibiotic creams and AHA (alpha hydroxy acids) and BHA (beta hydroxy acids) containing medications that need to be used. Using the medicated cream that you are currently using will cause side effects like peeling, redness, inflammation, skin thinning, and loss of mechanical barrier protection of the skin, making the skin dry and flaky.

My suggestion would be to stop their usage to prevent further worsening of symptoms. For the symptoms you are currently having, I would suggest you the following:

1. Avoid using the medicated cream that you are using currently.

2. Avoid any skin care products, including serums, face washes, and moisturizers, till your skin completely heals.

3. Skin has the capacity to heal by itself. Give it a few weeks for the skin to get back to the normal stage.

4. Applying Ahaglow repair gel (Ectoin and Hydranov-P) once daily at night for three weeks would help increase and fasten the healing process.

5. Wash your face with normal temperature water only without using any facewashes for the time being.

6. Capsule Omega 3 (alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)) once daily after dinner for one month may be useful for hydration of the skin and faster healing.

Do not worry. It is not a serious condition. With time skin would get back to normal stage. For treatment of acne, kindly provide the image of the affected area for assessment of severity and providing proper advice and management for the same.

Hope I was helpful.

Stay happy, healthy, and safe.

Take care.
