How to treat epididymo-orchitis due to tubercular infection?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My left testicle is swollen and sometimes painful. Doctors have indicated that there is an infection. Three months ago, my semen analysis report showed two to four pus cells per high-power field (HPF) and two to four red blood cells (RBC) per HPF. My current report shows no pus cells and no RBCs. The semen culture report indicated no significant growth. I am now prescribed a combination of Isoniazid, Rifampicin, Ethambutol, and Pyrazinamide tablets. However, I still experience swelling and pain in the testicle. Are there any chances of transmitting the infection to my partner if we have sex without a condom?

Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concerns.

Based on the information provided, it seems you may have experienced epididymo-orchitis due to tubercular infection. Although your urine culture and microscopy report were normal, it is advisable to use protection during sexual activity. This is because the presence of an infection can make you more susceptible to other infections, which could potentially be transmitted to your partner.

It is important to note that the risk of spreading tuberculosis through sexual contact is extremely low. In other words, there is no evidence to suggest that tuberculosis can be transmitted through sexual intercourse, even if a condom is not used.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you.
