I had unprotected sex 15 hours after taking I-pill. Can I get pregnant in this scenario?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had unprotected sex after 15 hours of I-pill. Can I get pregnant in this scenario? Also, my monthly periods have become irregular as I take one pill a month. Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Pregnancy chances depend upon the day from the periods on which you had intercourse. You have not mentioned the last period date and the date on which the intercourse occurred. In general, pregnancy can happen even after taking I-pill. It has failure rates.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I had intercourse on the 23rd, and my periods were on the 15th. Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The intercourse was on the ninth day when calculated from your period. So, there are very less (one to two percent) chances of pregnancy as the chances of ovulation so early are very less. Also, if you had bleeding after taking the I-pill, you are surely safe.
