Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been recently married and I have been pregnant for three months. I have had low BP and gastric problems before pregnancy. Recently, the doctor noticed a uterus fibroid of size 3.24 x 2.78 cm. Is it common to have such a big fibroid? Will it affect the growth of my baby in the womb? Kindly go through the reports attached and advise how to get rid of it and if it can come back again. The doctor suggested removing the uterus, which can affect my married life. So, what can we do about it? Will this fibroid removal surgery affect my life? Will I be able to do household work?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

The uterine fibroid usually causes difficulty in the implantation of the embryo. The fibroid also increases in size during pregnancy under the influence of hormones. As you are three months pregnant, I think your pregnancy should continue till term, along with the fibroid. As far as the removal of the fibroid is concerned, I would like to ask you if it is causing you any problems like increased bleeding or abdominal pain. These have to be considered after the delivery, and there are other options than removal. The fibroid usually shrinks after delivery.

Kindly revert for more queries.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

I am eight weeks pregnant. I get severe abdominal pain sometimes. Also, I have had low BP and gas trouble. Can this be due to fibroid? Kindly go through my ultrasound reports and tell me what problems I can have with this fibroid. As you mentioned, fibroid usually shrinks after delivery, so does it mean there is no need for surgery?

Kindly help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As you are eight weeks pregnant (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity), the chances of fibroid causing a problem are very less. Also, the acidity and the low BP (blood pressure) is not because of fibroid. You should try to control your acidity by taking antacid; otherwise, you can have vomiting. The shrinking of fibroid needs to be observed after the delivery and then managed accordingly.

Hope it helps.

Thank you.
