How to treat recurrent UTI infection?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am suffering from UTI for the past nine years. It is repeating three months once, and I tried many antibiotics. Now, I am not taking any medicines. I am a 15-year-old female. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern. Have you ever undergone a urine culture and sensitivity test? If not, please get urine routine, and urine culture and sensitivity tests done. If you go for a urine test, make sure you clean your genitals with soap and water before the test and give a midstream urine sample for the test. That way, you will get an accurate result. It is also ideal to get your blood sugar levels tested. Some general precautions for prevention of urinary tract infections which needs to be followed are, keep your body adequately hydrated. Drink at least 0.3 to 0.5 gallons of water a day. Avoid using public toilets. There are the main source of such infections. Avoid eating spicy food and too many sweets. Clean your genitals twice every day (especially because you are prone to developing infection). While washing your genitals, wash from front to back (and not from back to front). Microbiological research done on women shows that this method of washing helps in preventing urinary tract infection.

I hope this helps. If you decide to undergo laboratory testing of urine, you can follow up with the complete report for further assistance.
