Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

While giving Pentaxim vaccination, a few drops leaked out, and only a couple of drops were injected into my baby. The nurse and doctor said it was fine. They said that only a drop is enough. Is it really enough?

Answered by Dr. Preeti Puranik

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Pentaxim injection contains 0.5 ml, which is approximately equal to 8 to 10 drops. Spillage would have been about four drops. Even if four drops have been injected, it is enough.

Moreover, you do not have to bother much, as a total of four doses of this vaccine will be given till the baby turns two years. So the immunity will not be affected. Even a small amount of vaccine generates an immune response.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

This was her third dose. She is 3.5 months old. The nurse said one to two drops had definitely been injected. So, I will not administer again and wait for the next dose, right?

Answered by Dr. Preeti Puranik

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

No need for repeat administration. The next dose will be at the age of 16 to 18 months. Already, the previous two doses would have evoked an effective immune response. This dose is just to boost it. Do not worry about it.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
