Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had unprotected sex three months back and got brown discharge followed by bleeding, ten days later. I again had unprotected sex two months back and again had bleeding four days later. Is this menstrual or miscarriage bleeding? I did not take emergency contraceptive pills after the sexual intercourse on both the occasions. And there was also little blood clots in the bleeding.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

They are likely to be your menses and not a miscarriage, as you had a normal menstrual bleed for six days each month. Miscarriage would have been confirmed if serum beta hCG test had been positive.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for replying. Yes, I tend to have a six-day cycle. But, I did not perform the test mentioned above. I was worried because the menses I had was accompanied by brown patches on the first day, followed by blood clots. Why did this happen? Can you please explain. But I had no abdominal pain or cramps.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If a pregnancy was not checked, then it is important to know your last menstrual date. If the date was roughly a month ago, then it was likely to be menstrual bleed. If it was in the middle of the cycle, then this could have been an ovulation bleed. And if it is menstrual bleeding, then the decreased blood flow was due to stress.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
