Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had unprotected sex a few days ago with my new partner, and my vagina started itching the next day. I have taken medication for thrush and yeast infection but the itching is still present. It cannot be an STD because the symptoms started too quickly, correct? What could cause itching 24 hours after sex? Could it be bacteria? Or from friction and tearing? The itching is only present around the entrance of the vagina and is still there. This has happened to me before, and thrush medication cleared it up, but not this time. The itching is never as bad as it is now. How do I treat this and make the itching go away? Thank you for your help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Sometimes old STDs (sexually transmitted disease) becomes active after being dormant for some time. It is better to take precautions and get the necessary help.

I would suggest the following-

1) Have a vaginal swab and send it to a laboratory to have a clear idea about the organism causing the itching.

2) Practice strict hygiene.

3) Use condoms to reduce sexual transmission.

4) Sit in warm water to relieve temporarily.

5) After the vaginal swab, have a Doxycycline tablet 100 mg for every 12 hours and a Metronidazole tablet 400 mg every 8 hours for a period of seven days. However, please consult a physician, discuss with them and start taking the medications with their consent.

6) Collect the HVS (high vaginal swab) report and discuss it with your doctor.

7) Have a healthy nutritious diet, walk daily with recreational activities, and prevent recreational drugs.

Hope this helps.

Thank you and take care.
