Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My 4-year-old son had fever with chills, vomiting, and loose motion ten days back. He was prescribed with antibiotics, he recovered after one week, but complained about stomach pain and got fever occasionally in the night. I saw the doctor and he recommended some test. In that, I found high platelets and low lymphocytes (report attached), and CRP is also high. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to iclinic.com

I understand your concern.

Your child can have viral gastroenteritis-like conditions. Sometimes viral infection can lead to bone marrow suppression and so lymphocytes count can be low. All other findings like neutrophils count, total count normal and typhoid are also negative. So symptomatic management can be continued as clinical improvement is present. I would suggest getting an ultrasound abdomen scanning for further workup. I would suggest the following:

  1. Give him green leafy vegetables and fruits.
  2. Avoid excess spicy foods.
  3. Repeat the complete blood count after five days and consult your treating pediatrician for an examination

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
