Vomiting, nausea, and loose bowels for three days—why?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 23-years-old female. I have been vomiting for the past three days and also having loose bowel movements. I sometimes cannot stand the smell of certain foods. I find it very easy to fall asleep.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

If sexually active, it might be due to pregnancy. Get a home test to rule it out. If not pregnant, then, could be acute gastroenteritis. Kindly consult your doctor to discuss the suggestions and take the treatment with consent.

Tasectan (gelatin tannate) to stop loose bowel movements.

Probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora.

Follow the BRAT diet (banana, rice, apple sauce, and toast).

Take plenty of fluids, especially plain water with ORS (oral rehydration solution) to replace the lost fluids.

If cannot stop vomiting and cannot take anything, go to the ER as might need to receive intravenous replacement therapy.
