Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Please advise some supplements for my wife as she is feeling weak. This problem occurred recently after delivery. She has an 8-month baby. She is taking sugary foods. Would you please give me your opinion on this?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Thanks for writing in, and I understand your concern. I would like you to know that there could be many reasons for this weakness, like an insufficient healthy diet and low hemoglobin. I would like to know how the baby was delivered? Were there any complications during or after the delivery, like excess blood loss? For how long did she take supplements advised during her pregnancy? Also, please share the reports of the latest blood glucose profile.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your response.

Earlier she got two blood tests. In both the reports, sugar was high as per the pathologist. I have attached both reports for your reference. The delivery was 14 days before the expected date, and the baby was two weeks premature. She took supplements during the whole pregnancy, and after delivery, no supplements were prescribed. It took six months for her periods to occur again after delivery. She had heavy bleeding then. Would you please let me know what should be done for weakness as her diet is also not so healthy?

Regards.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Based on the reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity), her blood sugar levels are outside the normal limits but not so high that she will need medications. Your wife will have to start changing her lifestyle, like exercising 40 to 50 minutes five days a week. This could be just going for a walk, light exercises, or yoga. Try to limit high sugary foods and fried foods. You can slightly lower the carbohydrates in your diet and replace them with protein in your diet.

Before starting any medications, you must get these tests done:

1. HbA1c levels (glycated hemoglobin)

2. Fasting blood glucose levels.

3. Postprandial blood glucose levels.

4. Serum lipid profile.

Other things that you should keep in mind:

- Consume green leafy vegetables and seasonal fruits and avoid fruits with high sugar content.

- Stay hydrated.

- Start Livogen (Ferrous Fumarate and Folic Acid) captab 1 tablet daily after meal with lime water or juice for 30 days.

I hope this helps you.

Regards.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your response.

My wife gets cold with a lime even if she touches the lemon. So which juice can be taken that would not affect her? Her fasting sugar was 121 mg/dL today. Please give me your opinion on this.

Regards.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If nothing is working, you can give the medicine with lukewarm water. You can try orange juice in that case. Just make sure not to have it with tea or milk as that will interfere with the absorption. And I had asked earlier for postprandial values and HbA1c levels also. Please do share them with me.

Regards.
