How can I make my little child eat well?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 2-year-old boy does not eat food and does not drink milk. I am very worried. Can you kindly suggest me right treatment to solve this problem?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Kids disliking food or milk is a very strange state. This usually it happens due to faulty weaning practices.

I suggest the following:

  1. Check his weight. Is he losing weight?
  2. Weight loss needs to be evaluated with blood tests like haemoglobin.
  3. Worm infestation is very common at this age which can lead to decreased appetite. I suggest you give him Bandy-Plus (Ivermectin and Albendazole) 2.5 mL one a week in the night. Repeat this every six months. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and with their consent take the medicines.
  4. Start him with what he likes. For example, you can give him homemade soups.
  5. You can try different formula feeds available in the market.
  6. Temporary home food should always be encouraged.
  7. All medications should be taken after consultation with the doctor.
