Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 66-year-old female and have been following a paleo vegetarian diet from the last month. My sugar level has dropped from 280 to 160 mg/dL, and my weight has reduced from 88 to 86 kilos, shedding only 2 kilos. I need advice on how to lose weight. Please suggest.

Thanking you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

For weight loss i suggest you to follow these instructions:

Get yourself fully investigated, including a complete hemogram, blood sugar test, thyroid profile, lipid profile, blood pressure, urine analysis, etc. Rule out any medical or surgical conditions, and if any are present, treat them accordingly.

I am providing recommendations here to reduce weight, but they might need modifications based on your health, personal preferences, test reports, etc. Cut down on fats, oils, junk food, outside food, and sugar. Avoid desi ghee, fried foods, non-vegetarian food, alcohol, etc. Take a basic, simple, home-based, healthy, and nutritional diet. Never lie down immediately after consuming food. After a meal, either do some light walking or normal household chores or work. Avoid sitting for prolonged periods of time.

Do exercises like walking, yoga, pranayama, or gym as your health permits, and start gradually. Do brisk walking in the morning and evening. Drink plenty of water or fluids. Take buttermilk, curd, milk, lemon water, etc. Cut down fruit juices, tinned food, and liquids. Take double-toned dairy products. Avoid butter, cream, and cheese. Drink at least two liters of water a day. Drink at least two glasses of water in the morning after you wake up on an empty stomach. Limit your intake of chapattis and don't oil them. Increase your intake of pulses, green vegetables, fresh fruits, soup, and salad in your diet.

Take oats for breakfast. If you take eggs, avoid the yolk. Have a healthy and full lunch. Cut down on dinner in terms of no chapattis but only a bowl of vegetables. For snacks, have soup, salads, and fruits. Do not use much oil in cooking. If anemia is confirmed (though you have not mentioned the levels), please mention them so that we know whether medication or diet modifications will suffice. Foods rich in iron can be taken, including spinach. Try experimenting and having boiled food at times.

I hope this helps.

Regards.
