Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had sex with my partner, following which I am experiencing a white discharge issue. The discharge is thick and smelly. It has been two days post my expected period date. I am worried whether this could be a sign of pregnancy or any other kind of infection. I did a pregnancy test and it was negative. Kindly let me know what this could be.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

We will pay close attention to your worries and address all your questions with utmost care.

Unprotected intercourse might give rise to unwanted pregnancy or infections. You are just two days overdue from your expected period date. So, wait for 10 days. Your periods might start naturally. If not, then repeat the pregnancy test. Regarding the white discharge, if it is accompanied by itching, then it could be a sign of an infection. You need to visit a nearby gynecologist to determine the type of infection. It could be most commonly a fungal infection. Please do the following:

  1. Ensure that you maintain good personal hygiene.

  2. Wear cotton undergarments, and change the undergarments at least two times a day.

  3. Avoid washing the private parts repeatedly after passing urine since doing this keeps the area moist and creates an environment for the growth of the fungus.

Please feel free to reach me again in case of any further queries.

Thank you.
