Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had my wisdom teeth removed a week and a half ago (only bottoms). One side has almost completely healed there is only a tiny hole left but on the other side, there is a big hole that food keeps getting stuck in it. I drain it with a syringe every night. I have no pain and I am just concerned because the one side is almost completely healed the other side hole is huge especially when I use my finger to widen my mouth.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Healing after tooth extraction takes three to five days. However, complete closure of the socket takes a couple of weeks. The duration of healing depends on the complications faced during extraction. If this tooth was quite challenging and needed more soft tissue retraction, it may take a little extra time to close completely. This is absolutely normal unless you do not have any pain or discomfort in that socket.

Meanwhile, avoid too much hard and chewy foods until this heals completely to be on the safer side. And do rinse mouth and follow saline flushing after every meal to remove food deposits from the socket. This will help better healing.

I hope this helps.
