Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 24-year-old female. I had unprotected sex. My fiance did not ejaculate inside but the sperm remained near my vagina. I took a birth control pill after 24 hours of having sex. My ovulation day comes after four days and I expect my periods after 13 days. I am really worried as I do not want to become pregnant. How can I know whether my pill has worked?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

For getting pregnant, semen containing sperms have to be ejaculated inside the vagina. Sperms fertilize the egg and get placed inside the uterus. In your case, sperms were placed on the surface of the vagina and not inside it, but still, you have a possibility to become pregnant. As you have taken an emergency contraceptive pill within the stipulated time, so pregnancy is not possible in this condition. You have taken adequate and appropriate steps to prevent unplanned pregnancy. On the other part, you have taken an emergency contraceptive pill. It is a hormone-based pill. It has a side effect of showing delayed periods in certain females. You can have delayed periods and spotting after a week of using pills. It is quite normal to occur.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
