Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had sex with my partner two days before her ovulation date. We did not use a condom, and I did not ejaculate in her, and this was last week. Today she said that her lower abdomen was hurting. Is that a sign of pregnancy? If so, what can I do to avoid it?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com

I fully understand your concern and will surely help you. For getting pregnant, the sperms have to be ejaculated inside the vagina of the female. Now I would like to tell you that even precum contains some sperms and can lead to pregnancy. Also, the sperms can survive up to five days in a female body. These sperms need to fertilize an egg that is then required to be implanted in the female's uterus. When all this happens successfully, then a female is said to have conceived. It has been seven days, so it is too early to detect pregnancy. However, at this stage, to avoid unplanned pregnancy, she may consider taking an emergency contraceptive pill, although its efficacy will be around 50 percent now. Do not worry. Feel free to ask any questions or to share any additional information. Thanks.
