Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a fear of choking since I almost did a few years ago. I know this is weird, but can you give me some medical facts and tips about choking to overcome this fear?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

I need more details regarding your choking. Did you have choking while eating? Do you talk during eating? Was there any cough during eating or drinking water?

Choking is a common problem because humans have the same tract for both food and air in the back of the throat. If a person has food or drink then the respiratory tract opening temporarily closes, and food enters the food tract called the esophagus and vice versa. This coordination is important. Sometimes, in the scenarios that are mentioned above, food or water may enter your respiratory tract and result in choking. So to avoid it, while eating you should avoid talking because talking opens the respiratory tract. Avoid food or drinks after heavy activities and whenever you are breathing heavily. So no need to worry, just take precautions.

I hope this helps you. Get back with another query if you have any doubts.

Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
