Hello doctor,

My wife wants to get pregnant. Last month her period was 12 days late from her original period's date. This month she has not got her periods. Please give your expert opinion on the issue. Tell us how to confirm her pregnancy?

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Please get a urine pregnancy test done. You can get a urine pregnancy kit from the pharmacist and test at home itself. If there are two pink vertical lines that means your wife is pregnant. If the test is negative you can wait for about a week and take medicine for getting periods. I suggest your wife takes tablet Deviry (Medroxy progesterone acetate) 10 mg twice a day for five days. Then she will get her periods after six to seven days of stopping the drug. Please consult a specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and take medicine with consent. Also get a thyroid profile test and ultrasound scan done to know the reason for delayed and not getting the periods.

Thank you doctor,

Actually, the matter is that we want to have a baby very soon. We are trying from the last two months but not getting any positive results. Please advise us for a successful pregnancy.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Infertility treatment is started only after trying for one year. In your case, you have been trying for two months only. So you need not have to initiate the treatment at least for six months.

You have not specified the age of your wife. If she is less than 35 years, then you can try naturally for a year. If 35 or more we will have to intervene after trying for six months.

  • Try to have intercourse at least thrice in a week. If you continue daily, then the sperm count may decrease, and that is not right then.
  • Also you need to have intercourse from the 10th day to 14th day of the cycle as that is the fertile period. The first day of the menses is day one for your reference. Both of you should have a healthy diet.
  • Do a baseline thyroid profile, complete blood count for hemoglobin and ultrasound scan.
  • I suggest your wife takes Folic acid 5 mg tablets daily for a pre-conceptional preparation of the body. Please consult a specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and take medicine with consent.
