Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

My mother is 56 years old. She has a cough, cold, and phlegm in her throat. She does not have a fever but has body pain and tiredness. She has diabetes and high blood pressure. She is taking Insulin daily in the morning and at night before food. She had angiogram three years back and taking medication daily. She is taking Istavel sugar tablets once daily, Clopidogrel, and Carvedilol IP 12.5 mg once daily. I need precautions for my mother to reduce the symptoms as she has diabetes and high blood pressure, which is an increased risk for my mother for COVID-19 infection. I have a positive case confirmed in my family two days back.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through your query. And I can understand that you must be worried about the health of your mother. As mentioned, your mother has diabetes and hypertension and had undergone an angiogram, which makes her high risk for COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) infection. Also, there was a confirmed positive case in your family which makes her high-risk contact. As she is symptomatic with cough, cold, and weakness, I would advise you to get her tested for COVID-19.

Meanwhile, I suggest she start on oral antibiotics like Azithromycin, Multivitamins, zinc supplements, and cough syrup like Grillinctus BM, Benadryl, Alex, etc. Continue her medications for diabetes and hypertension. Keep monitoring her sugar level and oxygen saturation. Keep her at home and follow social distancing. Ask her to do little yoga or breathing exercises which will increase the capacity of the lung. Also, I would urge you to get her vaccinated (if not yet taken), which is the most effective way of preventing severe COVID-19 infections. I would be happy to help you further if you have more questions.

Thank you.
