Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My daughter has been suffering from dengue fever for the last four days, but despite taking medicines (Paracetamol and Emeset), her status has not improved. Her fever is still high, and she is also having nausea and vomiting. This is worrying me. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

It appears that your daughter's infection is unremitting. I would suggest the following tests that need to be done.

1. Blood- CBC (complete blood profile), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), liver function test (LFT), renal function test (RFT).

2. Radiology - X-ray chest.

I strongly suggest hospitalization if the parameters in hematological tests CBC (complete blood count) are abnormal, particularly platelet counts, and clinical symptoms do not improve immediately, as dengue patients usually require supervised medical care. Dengue fever usually causes nausea, vomiting, rash, body aches, and eye pain, typically behind the eyes, muscle, joint, or bone pain, lasting about a week and disappearing. It is concerning when the platelet count goes below normal limits, as it can potentially cause internal bleeding and complications.

Thank you.
