What could be the reason for pain in the gums near the last molar, even though the wisdom tooth was extracted?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had my wisdom tooth removed, but I have pain in the gums near the last molar. What could be the reason? Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Kindly upload a photo of the painful area as the pain generally arises due to the third molar eruption, but since you have got that extracted, it can be caries or a pocket formation behind the last tooth (second molar).

Sometimes the upper third molar on the opposite side over erupts due to the absence of the lower third molar and pokes the gum continuously. That might create trauma and initiate pain, so try to include the upper third molar in the same photo if possible. For the pain, I would suggest:

  1. Tablet Ibuprofen.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
