Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 30 years old married woman who delivered a baby boy four months back. My baby is active and healthy, but I feel tired and low. I am not able to control myself and cry every night. I stay with my parents and my husband stays in another country for his job. He is also doing good, but I am not able to live happily and have started getting angry over small issues. I felt irritated over something or the other. I am also feeling restless and is not able to enjoy myself with my small baby. I get stressed over all the daily tasks that I have to do. How can I overcome this and enjoy my postpartum period?

Thank you.

Hi,

We welcome you to the icliniq family.

I appreciate the confidence you place in me for your healthcare consultation.

Thank you for taking help and congratulations on the baby. I read your case and I can understand your concern. Motherhood is not an easy task. You may have a major depressive disorder. There is non-pharmacological management to treat your depression. I would suggest you should try to follow the below guidelines to deal with it. It will help you. They are,

  1. You should do exercises daily for 30 to 45 minutes or at least go for a walk daily. It will uplift your mood.
  2. You should do meditation for 20 minutes daily, just sit in one place in a comfortable position and try to concentrate on your normal breathing, do not stop or force yourself to stop your thoughts, just let it be. It will relax and reduces irritability.
  3. You should eat healthy home-cooked foods, and avoid junk foods.
  4. You must drink enough water.
  5. You should spend quality time with friends and family daily and do video calls as your husband is doing a job abroad.
  6. You should spend time on creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, and learning new skills or language or musical instruments.
  7. You should take enough 7 to 8 hours of sleep daily.
  8. You must avoid tobacco or alcohol or any substance abuse.
  9. Very important, live your life, do not just spend it. Be bold and confident.
  10. If you still have symptoms that persist after following the advice for 4 to 6 weeks, then you need to start medications for a short duration.

I also suggest you go for a few blood reports,

    1. CBC (complete blood count).
    2. Thyroid profile.
    3. Vitamin B12.
    4. Vitamin D3.
    5. I hope that you get your answer.

      Thank you.
