Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Can you please check my chest X-ray and let me know about the issue as I cannot walk. I have pain whenever I walk.

Answered by Dr. Ruchi Sharma

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Your X-ray from the attached reports (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity) appears normal to me from whatever I can see because there are a lot of background lights seen through the film that can mask bony abnormalities. Therefore there are better images than this one for reporting. So either take the picture again without background and resend it, or I suggest you get an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) of the ankle and foot because an x-ray is done to rule out fractures mainly. In contrast, MRI can detect problems in tendons, muscles, ligaments, joints, cartilage, nerves, etc., that can cause pain and difficulty in walking. On x-ray, we cannot see all these. Therefore, most times, pathology can be missed.

Please note that the distal (lower) end of the fibula is not seen clearly in this image.

I hope this helps.

Take care.
