Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have seen that DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol) drug is bad for women who are trying to get pregnant or who are pregnant and breastfeeding. Is DMAE safe for men to take when the couple is trying to conceive?

What side effects can DMAE have for men? Can you please suggest your views on it?

Answered by Dr. Arpit Varshney

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

DMAE is Dimethylaminoethanol, it is a compound that helps improve mood and increase activeness. The bad news regarding this product is that there is no large level comprehensive sufficient studies which can tell us whether it is good or bad. There are only small scale studies and hit and trial results (these are not reliable).

Now if it were only a question of consuming it for yourself, I would have suggested you go ahead but since a baby who is yet to be conceived is in question, I will suggest you not take it till the baby is conceived and once your wife is pregnant, you can start consuming DMAE. If you want to ask for your wife, I suggest not taking it till she stops breastfeeding your baby which is estimated to be two to two and a half years from now.

Kindly reach out for more help.

Regards.
