Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 24-year-old female and have been on a vegetarian diet for the last 12 years. I have been feeling very dizzy on and off for the past few days. I have had one or two very short spells of lightheadedness in the past two weeks. Since last three days, the spells have become longer and has been happening multiple times a day. The feeling did not get worse, just lasted longer and caused more fatigue. I have had very mild headaches that feel like light pressure in the nose, eyes, temples, and under eyes but I do not have mucus or other symptoms of sinuses. The lightheadedness does not knock me off my feet, but it is distracting and disconcerting. I think it kicks in my anxiety as well which makes it worse. I do not have a previous history of the same issue. I have also been under a lot of stress for the past few weeks from making large life decisions. I am wondering if my symptoms seem like a regular anemic condition that will go away as I correct my diet or if I should go see a doctor in person. I have not been eating very healthy and started to take vitamins and focus on my iron intake after starting to feel dizzy but it has not helped much. My current medication is contraceptive pill, tablet Evelyn. I am not able to make out if my lightheadedness is due to a medical reason or anxiety or both. Please help me out.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query in detail and understand your concern.

Fatigue and dizziness can be symptoms of anemia. I suggest you to get a few tests done and if anemia is confirmed, then taking one tablet once a day for one month is going to make you fit. However, we need to rule out other causes and differential diagnosis and not stick to one. For this, I will like to know a few things.

1. Have you ever got your blood pressure checked as high blood pressure can cause these symptoms?

2. Are you on any medications as medicines for anxiety can cause dizziness?

3. Have you ever got your thyroid profile done as abnormal thyroid levels can also cause these symptoms?

4. Do you have frequent anxiety and panic attacks as these can also lead to these symptoms?

5. Do you ever feel palpitations and that your heart is slowing down or having a rush?

Kindly revert with the answers to these questions so that I can help you out in a much better way. Once I have your detailed history and evaluation, then I can suggest you on medications that will help you in the long run. Hope this is helpful.

Regards.
