Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I cleaned my ear with a Q-tip and now I cannot hear. Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com

Most probably in your case the wax would have got pushed further inside due to the Q-tip (earbud). It might be occluding the canal and the ear drum totally, so you cannot hear now. I suggest you to take Dewax or wax-dissolving ear drops, three to four drops daily for three to four times in the particular ear. Go to an ENT (ear, nose and throat) specialist for wax removal and take the ear drops with consent. The drops will soften the wax and it will come out easily with a suction or probe. However, a small chance is that the eardrum has ruptured due to the poking by Q-tip. But, in such a case you will have severe pain. Since you do not report any pain, we can rule out that possibility. The same can be confirmed only by looking into the ear through an otoscope.
