What are some ways to increase low testosterone levels?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Recently, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. I am now experiencing erectile dysfunction and weakness. My testosterone level is 280 ng/dL. Should I have other hormones checked?

Please advise.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Did you have this hormone checked in the early morning? Ideally, the sample should be given before 9 AM at a reputable endocrinology laboratory. Many errors can occur, so always test for total testosterone. You can now focus on controlling your diabetes and starting some exercise. Walking for 30 to 45 minutes in the morning or evening is generally sufficient. Limit alcohol consumption and stop smoking. Repeat the total testosterone test after one month. If it is still less than 250 ng/dL, consider consulting an andrologist or urologist.

I hope this helps you.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Yes, I had the test done in the early morning, and my last report also showed low levels. I am a non-smoker and do not drink alcohol. If further testing is needed, which laboratory tests should I consider? I would like to address this issue and find a solution.

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

In that case, you should start exercising, as it can help increase your testosterone levels. Although your testosterone is on the lower end, it is still within the normal range. You do not need testosterone supplements at this time. I suggest you provide your complete medical details, including age, weight, and height, or consult an andrologist in person for a thorough evaluation.
