Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am a 62 year old male. I have one stent but otherwise very healthy, nonsmoker, who works out one hour per day six days a week. I take Atorvastatin, 80 mg daily and Tamsulosin once daily, no other meds except 81 mg Aspirin. I have slightly elevated blood pressure 138/78 and have been experiencing some ED symptoms the last six months or so. I have read that Viagra has been shown in a 20 year study to lower blood pressure while improving erectile dysfunction. What is your opinion on this? I have ordered a few 25 mg to try out.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Is your ejection fraction normal?
Yes, Viagra (Sildenafil) can cause fall in BP as a side effect and you are also having Tamsulosin. So, it also predisposes one to BP fall. You need to use it cautiously. It is better to stop Tamsulosin if it is not absolutely necessary with Viagra. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her and stop the medicine with their consent. And do not use other nitrates for the purpose of heart diseases like Nitroglycerin, Isosorbide dinitrate or Mononitrate, etc.
Avoid dehydration and keep salt-sugar water or ORS ready if BP falls excessively.
Hope this helps you and get back if you have any doubts.
