Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 25-year-old married male. I am addicted to masturbation since my teenage. I feel so weak because of this. How do I overcome this problem?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Thank you for stopping by!

I am here to provide expert opinions on your medical issues. Let me start off by saying that there is nothing wrong with or to be ashamed of if a man masturbates or watches porn. However, if this habit starts to interfere with daily life, confidence, and marital relationships then we have to look for what needs to be done. In order for me to help you, I need you to help me with some details: How long have you been married? How many times per week do you masturbate? Do you have any difficulty with your erections? How many times a week do you engage in sexual activity with your partner? Are there any issues with that? Would you describe your relationship with your partner as healthy and open? Have you tried discussing this issue with her? Other than acne, do you suffer from any other illnesses such as diabetes, or hypertension? Are you on any other medication regularly?

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Here are the answers to your questions. I have been married for three months. I masturbate once or twice per week. Never been engaged in sexual activity with my partner. I do not feel aroused. I used to take Isotroin 10 mg daily for skin acne.

Thank you.

Hello,

Glad to have you back!

I am here to help you get the best medical advice. Watching porn and masturbating once or twice a week does not amount to addiction. This is completely normal for men and women to occasionally be involved in masturbation, and in watching porn. Masturbation itself is actually a healthy habit. However, as I said it becomes a problem if it interferes with your self-confidence, your relationship with your partner, or your sexual performance. What you must understand is that you have to give time to your partner, make her feel comfortable and at ease. This will make being intimate easier. I must also tell you that what you watch in porn is all staged and rehearsed and cannot be replicated in real life. So please do not have unrealistic expectations when you are intimate with your partner. My suggestion would be to speak with your partner about your troubles, and both of you find a way together to be intimate. This can involve foreplay, the use of toys, etc to help stimulate intimate relations. Maybe taking a break away from home might do both of you some benefit. One last question before I describe to you, some medication to help you: Are you hypertensive? When you are engaging in masturbation, how long does it take for you before you ejaculate? Are you happy with the erection quality?

I hope this has helped you. Thank you.
