Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 30-year-old unmarried woman seeking advice regarding a recent lower abdominal pain experienced on the right side. This sharp pain persisted throughout the day, intermittently coming and going. While I have experienced similar pains in the past, this episode was particularly severe. Consequently, I decided to consult a doctor the following day, who then conducted an ultrasound test. The results indicated that my uterus is anteverted and normal in size, outline, and echo texture. My uterus is 8.6 x 4.2 x 4.1 cm in size. The doctor saw two fibroids, the largest one is a subserosal fibroid which is 12.7 x 8.5 cm in size and is situated at the fundus of my uterus. Another one is an intramural fibroid measuring 2.4 x 2.2 cm situated at the posterior wall of my uterus. My endometrial thickness is 1.16 cm. Both ovaries are normal. The right ovary is 2.7 x 2.4 cm in size and the left ovary is 2.6 x 1.6 cm in size. There is no adnexal mass present. Cul de sac is also clear. I am currently taking no medications but I usually have cramps during my periods so I have to take medicine like Feminax and Panadol menstrual to ease the pain. My period lasts for about six to seven days. My mother also had fibroids, for which she underwent a hysterectomy. Please advise if I need surgery immediately as advised by my doctor. I also want to know if it will create fertility issues or complicate the delivery of the child. And is there any possibility of recurrence if I get it removed?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern. Based on the information you provided and the images attached (attachment removed to protect the patient’s identity), it seems that you have a sizable fibroid measuring 12.7 x 8.5 cm, which is indeed quite large and may impact your ability to conceive. The recommended course of action is to undergo surgery, specifically for the removal of the fibroid, rather than a complete hysterectomy. Please rest assured that you can still conceive, so there is no need to worry. Once the surgery is completed, it is advisable to plan for pregnancy within the next six months. I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
