Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I gave birth a month ago, and I am feeling forgetful. It takes a very long time to think and recollect information from my brain. For example, if anyone asks me when I fed my baby last, I cannot trace the time.

Kindly advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Many new mothers occasionally have this problem with confusion, foggy thoughts, and forgetfulness due to changes in hormone levels which have a calming feeling. It could also be due to inadequate sleep, repeated feedings at night, and disturbance with your sleep rhythm. It will normalize in a few months once your sleep schedule improves. Also, if it is accompanied by anxiety, worries, sadness, or irritability, it could be a part of mild anxiety or depressive symptoms that are seen post-pregnancy. You could ask your local psychiatrist to prescribe some medicines safe during lactation. You could take it for 2 to 3 months and stop or taper off later.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
