Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a college student. I used to study for more than 13 hours a day but now I am finding it hard to remember what I have read and even to concentrate during lectures. I am worried about my forgetfulness.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

I would like to know more details about your symptoms;

1) Since when did you start having a feeling that you are forgetting things?

2) Are you forgetting only the academic things? Or are you forgetting the other day-to-day activities and routine things as well?

3) Do you have problems only concentrating during lectures? Or is there a disturbance in your overall concentration too?

4) Are you able to do your day-to-day activities like bathing, dressing, cleaning, going to college, etc. properly?

5) How is your sleep routine? Do you get sleepy soon after laying in bed? Or does it take a long time? Once got sleepy, do you have frequent awakenings during sleep? Do you feel fresh on awakening from sleep in the morning?

6) How is your usual mood in doing the day-to-day activities? Is it a happy mood or towards the sad side (thinking about past events or the future)?

7) How is your appetite?

Kindly revert with answers to the above questions, to be able to guide you better.

Investigations to be done

MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) brain. Thyroid function test -T3 (Triiodothyronine), T4 (Thyroxine), TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone). Serum vitamin B 12.

Treatment plan

Forgetting about academic things is very common among students and is usually not a sign of forgetfulness. The lack of concentration can be related to some mood or psychological factors.

Regarding follow up

Please revert to the above-mentioned information for better understanding and further treatment.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you for the reply.

I have been facing this problem only for less than a year. I got myself checked by a physician and even got an ECG; the reports of which came out normal. But my forgetfulness is so much that I forget small things such as brushing my teeth and I find it hard to understand even small things. I am worried and confused about my situation, please suggest what needs to be done.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If all the mentioned investigations are normal, I feel that your symptoms may be related to psychological factors. I suggest you consult a neurologist and a psychiatrist for a detailed assessment of your condition and psychological analysis.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert for further queries.
