Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had a frenuloplasty of the penis ten days back. It all seemed fine at first, and I had very little pain. I have to say the actual incision and stitches were a lot larger than what I was previously led to believe. I have been washing gently with salt water and rinsing twice daily. I took a good look a few days ago, and it seems that the stitches have come apart. To be honest, and I am not a urologist, but it does not look like a good job, though I may be wrong. I went to see the doctor yesterday, and she took a look and said that it all looks fine, the stitches may have come apart slightly. She told me to leave it for two weeks, and if I am still concerned, they will refer me back to the specialist. I was hoping to get a second opinion, this being my penis, I am obviously concerned that it is not going to heal properly and I will end up worse than before the operation. I am primarily looking for reassurance.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I saw the photos (attachment removed to protect patient identity). You are correct, a few stitches have come apart. Your doctor is also right, this wound looks healthy. You may continue with your daily care till it heals completely. At this point in time, the only best thing to do is wait till it heals completely. Most often it will heal as expected, any intervention now can only worsen the healing and the success of frenuloplasty. The need for repeat frenuloplasty or circumcision can only be decided after complete healing, which can take six to eight weeks. Even if the foreskin is not there, you will be able to have successful and satisfying sexual intercourse and orgasm. So, be reassured that nothing has gone awfully wrong. Just wait it out till complete healing takes place. Hopefully, it should heal well, as the wound is healthy.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you so much for replying to me so quickly. That is such a relief. My doctor was in a rush when I saw her the other day. As I have no experience in this nature, I was completely filled with worry more than anything. I suppose I am just not used to having a wound on my penis, as it looks very different to a general skin wound. Thank you for your reassurance. I will wait it out and continue with the healthy diet regime and gentle daily cleansing till it has healed completely.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Just continue with regular cleansing and give time for natural healing to take place. All the best.
