Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am currently using Imiquimod cream for my genital warts treatment. I had used Warticon previously. A week ago, my clitoris got swollen up, got red, and itchy, and the pain was unbelievable. I could barely move. Now I can see there are some white and yellow spots on the surrounding skin of the clitoris. It is getting worse and worse. Did I burn my skin with Imiquimod or can it be something else? How to get rid of it? Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Aldara is not a cure for genital warts. If used more or frequently or to the more sensitive spots like the vagina & very close to the clitoris, it can cause the symptoms you have mentioned. Hope you are using the right method.

  1. Use it in the minimum amount to cover the area, only three days a week for a maximum of 16 weeks.

  2. Before applying wash your hands and the area with water and a gentle soap. Then apply and gently rub it till it disappears.

  3. Do not use any nylon or synthetic materials as an undergarment. Use either cotton gauze or cotton undergarments. After six to 10 hours, wash it off with water and a gentle soap.

  4. Do not have sex while using this, because it can affect the material of the condom and tear it, and also it does not prevent the spread of the virus. This if not used in the right method can cause excoriation of skin and other gentle areas.

  5. Now what you can do is stop the application, wash locally with cold water and gentle soap, and apply some local ointment that contains an antibiotic, antifungal and local Anesthesia. This will gradually relieve you from the pain.

Meet your doctor and ask for a change of medication. Anyway, this is not going to cure your genital warts.

Thank you for choosing icliniq.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
