Is my lower abdominal and back pain a serious concern?
Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I am experiencing lower abdominal and back pain, but there is no fever and no pain during urination. I am sharing my reports. Are my reports normal? Kindly help with this.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have seen your reports (attachment removed to hide the patient's identity). It shows a few leukocytes and pus cells. It means there is a mild infection in your genitourinary tract. Whether this is significant or not depends on the symptoms you are facing. However, since you have lower abdominal and back pain, results will be substantial and need treatment. You need to get two more tests.
1. Urine culture - To detect the type of infection you have and get appropriate antibiotics.
2. Ultrasound of abdomen (specifically KUB - kidney, ureter, bladder) - This is required to rule out any water collection in kidneys urethra or urinary bladder as this complication commonly causes back pain; it is very easily treatable. You will need a week of course of appropriate antibiotics.
You should start with tablet Nitrofurantoin 100 mg twice daily and tablet Faropenem 200 mg thrice daily. Once your urine culture report comes, antibiotics can be changed accordingly. For abdominal pain, you can take tablet Drotaverine or tablet Mefenamic acid.
There is nothing to worry about; you will be fine in a week with the treatment.
Hope this helps.
Kindly revert in case of any further queries.
